Hello November!

It's crazy how fast time goes by but here we are closing up 2012. I've been submerged in work and projects but it's been a great year. I've spent a good portion of the year trying some new things, some worked, some didn't but the experiences of this year have been priceless. I always come back here and read my old post, so I figured this time I'd drop a line. I turned 25 this year (thank you lord for letting me see another year) and I really had a lot of time to reflect back on my teen years to my young adult years and really appreciate it. I started this blog about 5 years just looking to post some poetry and have a space to display some of my interest, but I never thought it would connect me to so many people from all over the world. I always give thanks to all the people who supported me here and continue to do so. This place for me is often like a digital photo album where I can come back and re-live some memories. Thank you to all who continue to rock with me after all this time, you are appreciated! Universal Love.

Recent Pick Ups!

Today, I picked up "Life Is Good" by Nas and "channelORANGE" by Frank Ocean. Support real music and go grab these albums! By grab, I mean, GO BUY!

It's W.A.R.

I was invited out to Justin Smith's photography showcase labeled "W.A.R." which hosted his recent photography. The venue was amazing, the event was astounding, and exactly what Phoenix needed. Ashton-Alexander does another fantastic job of capturing the energy of the event. Great work to all parties involved!

"Taking place in a charming, elegant room at The Ice House in Phoenix, Justin Smith's W.A.R. showcase stayed true to its setting. The handsomely framed prints captured moments from his time in NYC, LA, New Orleans, Vegas and AZ. The event was indeed a photography showcase but it was also a celebration of a newly completed Bachelor's degree for Justin as well as an introduction to the world as an artist." - Ashton-Alexander.com

The Pulse Finale!

I was invited last night (or early morning) to join Yaya for her last show of the Pulse. She's been doing the show for over 3 years and has really set a platform for true MC's to have a place for their music to be herd. It was a special night for her, packed with people who really care about her work, but more importantly about her as a person. Everyone traded stories about how the pulse had some role in their life. The part of the night I will never forget is when Talib Kweli called in to wish Yaya the best of luck and gave his thanks for allowing his music to be played in Phoenix. Everyone in the studio had what we called the "Shut ALL the way up" moment. The night ended with a bunch of great stories, hugs, and laughs. Yaya will be headed to Reno for the new chapter in her life. As much as it hurts to see her go, everyone is happy for her next step. Wishing you the best Yaya!

Happy Birthday Slimeeee!

Yesterday, was the homie J's birthday. We hit Blue Hound in downtown Phoenix for dinner. It was my first time checking the place out but I definitely intend to go back, the venue is great to say the least. The homie J has been holding me down for as long as I've known him and one of the few people that really understands what it is to be a good friend and person in general. It was good to have all our people in the building for the dinner. Wishing the homie J another year of great health and success!

Maximize Your 24 Hours.

One of the best things I've started to do more recently is get off my ass and be active. It's been a great release for me and has done wonders for my state of mind. I spend much of my free time in this area just thinking and clearing my mind. Since working in the healthcare industry, I've learned a lot about the importance of staying active. My good friend Lady La really inspired me to get out there and maximize my 24 hours. I thought I'd pass the knowledge on to the people who read my blog because it's one of the best things I've started to do in my adult life.

Congratulations Dru!

This past weekend, I was in L.A. for my brother's graduation. One of the best feelings was seeing him achieve a goal that we used to talk about as kids. My brother was always known as the fashionable kid in high school and was always determined to win best dressed in high school. The fact that he went to FIDM and took the toughest program (Fashion Design) speaks volumes. My brother is a true testament of where hard work and dedication can take you. This day will forever be instilled in my head and one the the best days of my life. We spent a lot of time talking about how challenging this task was but he never gave up. My brother gives me the confidence to chase my own goals and dreams. I've constantly seen him overcome challenges when the odds were stacked against him. He's a major part of my belief system that if you want it, you can get it. Congratulations to my brother, my best friend, my mentor! Salute!

Current Read: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.

I'm always looking for inspiration through different people, from Jay-Z to Gandhi. Normally biographies bore me, but Walter Isaacson does a great job of keeping the stories fresh. Couple years ago I read a book on Albert Einstein that he wrote and it was superb. When I caught wind that he would be writing a biography on Steve Jobs I was excited to say the least. Let me start off by saying, this is my second time reading this book and it really does inspire me. Steve Jobs was a phenomanal individual. He's a true dreamer and with his passion for design, he changed the world. Reading the book I learned he was MUCH more than just the CEO for Apple. He changed the digital world as we know it today. The thing I admire most about Steve Jobs was his ability to consistantly do the impossible. From datelines to products, he never let anyone tell him it couldn't be done. Reading the book you hear the word "Distortion Field" quite a lot but that's what gave him the vision to climb over walls that many people thought were impossible. The book really makes you feel as if you're walking with him and he's telling you the story himself. I've always respected his work and his visions, being that I'm a tech geek but this book really placed him high on my board. I highly suggest you read this book and I promise you will have a new gained respect for Apple and Steve Jobs as an individual. If you've read the book I'd love to hear your thoughts, leave a comment and tell me what you think!

My Interview With The-Bui.com!

Earlier this week, I sat down with The-Bui.com to speak about my ventures with wine and spoke about Universal Love.

"At a glance, Justin Jackson doesn’t look like your typical wine expert but this guy knows more than there is to know about the world’s most sophisticated drink. Jackson kicks the “snobby” stereotype of a wine connoisseur even more with his taste in fashion and music, as well as his interest in philosophy. Not only does he have his own wine review site (JacksonAve.net), but is also a consistent writer for one of the most leading go-to sites for fashion and entertainment,C’est La Vie.  There’s a lot about this guy that keeps people on their feet at all times and it’s no surprise that he is an inspiration in his own form." - The-Bui.com

Saturday night, I was invited out to Bar Smith to catch Dj Neil Armstrong on the 1's and 2's. He did his thing as always, never lets the crowd down and definitely keeps the party going STRONG! I haven't had this much in phoenix since... I don't remember but it's been awhile. I don't think there's a better feeling than dancing in a circles with the people you really care about and just vibing to some good music. I will remember this night for a long time! Visiting Timeless Select ( @TlMELESS_ )

Came to visit the homies over at Timeless Select the other day and chop it up with Mario. I try to stop by the shop whenever I'm on Mill Ave and say "What up!". The shop opened early November but they have been doing a lot of great work especially just having a two man team. Every time I swing by the store they surprise me with something new. I had the chance to look at a few pieces of the upcoming 'Timeless Select' apparel, I was very impressed with the work and quality of the product! The apparel will be dropping for the store very soon. The store is packed full of hard to find items and the team does an excllent job tracking down pieces if you need additional help. The store has a dope concept, very original and I love everything they have done so far! Keep up the great work guys and thanks for always lacing me with goods!

If you're ever on Mill Ave swing by Timeless Select ( 425 S Mill Ave STE. 107, TEMPE, AZ 85281)

Messiahs From FourTwoFour.

Last year while visiting my brother in L.A. like I often do, I was traveling down Fairfax and came across a shop I had never seen before. I walked inside and was immediately drawn to the accessories in the case. I really enjoyed all of the pieces but especially drawn to the messiah piece. I enjoy the fact that they take special pride in every piece they create. The customer service is excellent (which here in the states is hard to get for whatever reasons) and very friendly staff. I love my pieces that I received and I definitely recommend checking out the store if you never been. Every time I’m in L.A. I make sure to stop by and visit! Thanks again guys for all that you do! I've had this song on repeat all day. Kanye is/still/been that nigga. Hit-Boy kills the production game as usual. It's always fun to see Kanye do his thing and I can always do without DJ Khaled. Check the track if you haven't done so already.

East Coast Swing!

As some of you know, I took my first trip to New York recently. I’ve always been a west coast kid but one of my goals for 2012 was to travel to new places and NY was at the top of the list. I took a red-eye flight into NY, my good friend Evan, who had originally invited me out to New York, was gracious enough to open his home to me and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. I’m not a big tourist person, I’m more for people watching, shopping, and eating great food (which I did MUCH of all three). I did however check out central park and time square which was very exciting. I spent the majority of my time out in Soho (I love love LOVE that area). The weather for the week was around 35-45 degree’s; however the day I actually left it was mid 50’s (go figure lol). While in NY I had the chance to catch up with Alfred from Black-Scale. He showed me around Soho and put me on with an AMAZING Cuban restaurant. When it came to the night life, the homie David showed me around. I’m used to the club ending at 2:30, however in New York people drink til 6AM. I didn’t have any problems with that of course, so I had a lot of fun when it came to the nightlife. All and all, New York is an amazing place and for my first visit, I’d say it was a great one. I will definitely come back in the near future!

I took a little video for my first visit to Time Square. I don't see myself going back down there again, it's HECTIC.

Recent Pick Up: Primitive x Gourmet Quadici

I’ve been a fan of Gourmet for a few years now. I picked up my first pair of Gourmet’s a few years back with my first trip to SF. The brand has definitely evolved since then. The Quadici has definitely been one of the styles for Gourmet that has grown in popularity over the years. This was actually my first Quadici but I was more than excited when waiting for the release of this shoe. I really love that the shoe is so versatile, the patent leather and nylon with the clear sole really do a great job coming together. The blue embroidery is a great finish aswell! Gourmet has really impressed me with all of their designs and every season they continue to raise the bar.

High Rise II

Recently, I was blessed to be part of a group that wanted to build a respectable platform for Phoenix and beyond. The gentlemen who established the group happen to be good friends of mine. After attending the previous event, I thought the concept was great and I wanted to contribute. I joined up with them for the next event labeled “High Rise II”. The event was held downtown Phoenix at 44 Monroe. The thing that attracted me to the original events was the level of class that was set. There was a very grown up vibe. The dress code was upscale but not snobby, definitely for the mature crowd and people who have been instrumental in phoenix and the lifestyle that is starting to flourish throughout the city. Bottles of champagne and smoking cigars, gave it an extra feel. It was a very positive event and gave you a real reason to dress up and the opportunity to be around forward thinking individuals. I’ve posted a video that was created by Ashton-Alexander.com that caught some of the action for the night, enjoy!

Hello Giorgio!

A couple weeks back, I was invited to a lecture about a designer named Giorgio di Sant’ Angelo. Leah, a good friend of mine let me tag a long for this lecture. Before the lecture I’d never herd of Giorgio so I was more than happy to attend and learn. During the lecture, I also had the great chance to view some of his work and learn a little about his lifestyle. He had a great taste for fantasy and merged his own Latin upbringing with gypsy, American Indian, and even Asian influences. The fabrics he used were very vibrant and really stood out with each piece that I had I seen. He really brought knitwear to another level, mixing his ethnic-inspired looks. When the lecture ended, I even came home and did some more research on him because I was so intrigued. It was a great experience overall and I was very impressed with the lecture and the knowledge of the speaker on Giorgio’s work.
